Jane kits produce a range of kits that allow the handyman, restorer, factory owner, or manufacturer to do their own electroplating in house which is economical and convenient. The first thing to consider is the type of plating that you wish to do and the size of the kit. We produce kits that enable you to plate in nickel, zinc, copper or 24 carat gold. Zinc is popular with English motorcycle platers. Nickel is the choice of platers wanting chrome like appearance. 24 Carat Gold is generally used to plate jewellery or badges etc. The basic kit is the 4-litre kit, which simply means the amount of electrolyte in your plating bath will be 4 litres. Persons plating small items such as nuts, bolts, brackets, etc mainly use this size kit. Kits can be made up to any size. Eg. 20, 40, 100 litre baths. Nickel chemical needs to be heated to 50 Deg C. to carryout electroplating. The bath can be made of stainless steel and heated on a gas ring or hotplate. A plastic container can be used standing in hot water. Zinc and copper baths are operated at room temp. The zinc plating can be passivated (coloured) if required. Goldbrite produces a gold colour and Blu Dip produces a faint blue look similar to chrome. Passivate also improves corrosion resistance. We also carry electroless nickel, which is a process where nickel can be plated without passing electrical current through the plating bath. This is done heating the chemical to 90 Deg C. Blackening kits are also available which allow the user to blacken steel using a simple double dip room temperature procedure. The finish is an attractive matt black finish. Cleaner kits are available for a very reasonable cost. Cleaners are not included in the kit price. The cleaners consist of a rust and scale remover and a very strong degreaser. The cleaners will ensure that the parts to be plated are chemically clean and ready to be plated. The above is a brief outline of the products that we have available and a guide to help you decide which is the best kit for your specific use. There is much more information available as you look through the web site. There is a 23-page book included in each kit covering all aspects of plating, cleaning, blackening, and electroless nickel. |
