ELECTROLESS NICKEL |
|||||||
| This is another method that home platers can use to nickel their parts with the minimum of equipment. As the name implies, there are no anodes used and no electrical current is passed through the plating bath. Electroless nickel has a high phosphor content and has very good corrosion preventative qualities. It is ideal for motor cycle spokes and nipples. | |||||||
| The nickel chemical in concentrated form is mixed with water, four parts water to one part chemical. The chemical is then heated in a stainless container on a gas ring or barbeque plate to 90 degrees Celsius. Parts must be spotlessly clean as the cleaning process is the same as used for electroplating. Parts must also be free of old plating and are simply hung in the bath. After 40 minutes or so, your parts are nicely nickel plated. This type of nickel will not take to some brass alloys. | |||||||
