Jane Kits now has an iron & steel blackening system. This process does not require any electrical equipment; it is a simple double-dip system done at a room temperature of over 20 degrees C. The system requires the use of 2 non-hazardous chemicals, these being blackening solution and finishing oil, both mixed at 1 part solution to 3 parts water. The parts to be blackened must be chemically clean. Two cleaners are available to ensure proper cleaning, one is a metal preparation, the other is a water-based strong degreaser cleaner.

The Process

Hang the cleaned part from wire into the mixed blackening solution for 1 or 2 minutes, check and immerse for longer if required. Lift out and rinse in clean water. Hang the part in the finishing oil for 10 to15 minutes. Lift out and after 5 minutes drying, shake off excess oil. Lightly blow with air or hair dryer. Leave overnight or dry in warm to moderate oven. Wipe off smears of oil. You will have an even, attractive and protective finish on your job.
